So, last year I got my Pioneer XDJ-RX3 decks, made a few DJ mixes and stuck them up on SoundCloud, Mixcloud and there’s a few videos on YouTube too. As you’ll have read from my previous post on here, I’ve definitely developed what I feel to be a ‘signature sound’ in terms of deep, minimal/micro house and garage. That late night bar/basement vibe - a little bit like this mix:
So I think it’s worth laying out what I want to get done this year - as a foundation for the next few years/decade:
- Mix and produce new Podcast mix series. It’s going to be called ‘SubTraKtion In Aktion’, with EU-based hosting but delivery to all major podcast platforms. I need to consider the frequency - at present I am thinking of doing it Quarterly.
- Learn BitWig Studio and begin to produce new music. This will be a difficult one, as it’s been well over 10 years since I last worked with a DAW, and that was Logic on my (very) old Macbook. That Macbook is now running MX Linux and I’ve put BitWig on it - but it’s really just a tester laptop so I can get a taste of Linux before considering moving over when the time comes for a new laptop. *
- Continue to share on Instagram (@subtraktiondj) - with a view to redirecting to the privacy-respecting decentralised platforms (such as those on the ‘Fediverse’). I don’t think there’s much of an awareness of privacy issues with a lot of mainstream social media, so for now I think a large audience of who I want to share my mixes with are already on Insta. My mission is to help people switch to an (arguably) better decentralised platform where their privacy is better respected.
- Get some remixes in the bag! Already been planning this out with some choice tunes. How this pans out across the year I don’t know, depends on how well I do with BitWig, but the intention is there.
- Share my choice tunes of the month, starting February! My top tunes for the month and a bonus choice gym track you can add to your workouts :)
